Not only is this week’s AlphaBeasts! entry a serious creepster, she’s packed with the letter L. Ls everywhere. Ls enough for the whole project…L is for La Llorona.
La Llorona isn’t just a fun name to say, she’s one of those mythic creatures that comes with a wild tale of watery horror, cast-off love, and filicide. Like Jenny Greenteeth and other malicious water spirits, La Llorona has a tendency to drag the unsuspecting down into the depths for a quick drowning. Having “lost” her own children (stories differ on whether she had a hand in their murder or not), she’s quite fond of seeking out the wayward offspring of others.
"Aquí están mis hijos..."
As a proper complement, here’s the PJ Harvey song that became stuck in my head from the moment this week's beast began:
5 Gibbering Cries:
This thing creeps the hell out of me. The extra joints in the arm appendages are gruesome. Well done sir!
Just awesome. Death by awesome.
See, I'm surprised that this song didn't get stuck in your head (with alternate lyrics, of course):

That song always freaked me out! Especially when she starts whispering that "little fish, big fish" phrase. Strangely, I'd never watched the video until now! It was weird, but not as disturbing as the images I pictured when listening to that song. This was like some missing night club act from Twin Peaks or something. :)
I like the whole Day of the Dead/Marie Antoinette look she has going on. She also has a fitting tattoo!
>Dave - Excellent! It takes a lot of work to creep you out, sir, so I'm going to file this one under "Mission Accomplished." Thanks so much for having a look!
>Drax - I think I've been spending too much time with those DESCENT samples. Dangerous women are invading my work.
>Issac - That song and this piece are forever intertwined. That's one serious mnemonic device.
>Justine - You get a gold star for the TWIN PEAKS night club reference. Film that video backwards, add a little person, and it's solid gold. I'm a firm believer in Mexican spirits having a little touch of the Dia de los Muertos! And with so many great Day of the Dead tattoos out there, I couldn't resist. Cheers!
